Eyelash services such as extensions and lifts are all the rage! Read on for answers to common questions and concerns about eyelash extensions and eyelash lifts.

Are lash extensions safe?

Yes, lash extensions are safe, when done by a trained and certified artist!

The adhesive used does not contain formaldehyde and contains the same ingredients used in sutureless wound closure. Adhesives used for eyelash extensions at Luminaria Studios are the highest quality available. We value safety and efficacy over cost.

Lash extensions are made from a polyester fiber material that carries minimal risk of allergic reaction. Yet, allergies can develop at any time - so please consult your lash artist if you have concerns!

Will lash extensions damage my own natural lashes?

Lash extensions that are properly applied will not damage your natural lashes. Damage can be caused, however, by improper aftercare (picking/rubbing your lashes, poor hygiene, sleeping on them, excessive makeup, etc) and by receiving lash extensions that are too heavy/thick for your natural lashes to handle.

How long will my lashes last?

Eyelash extensions can last up to 4 weeks (depending on your hair growth and shed cycle), but most clients prefer to keep them full and beautiful by getting them filled in every 2-3 weeks.

You can make your lash extensions last longer by cleansing daily, brushing often, avoiding oil-based products, and skipping the mascara, as well as avoiding sleeping on them (they can snag and pull on pillowcase fabric).

What should I expect at my lash extension appointment?

For your initial appointment, you will be required to complete an intake and consent form.

A patch test can be done, by request, if you have a history of sensitivities to any products used (a “patch test” consists of application of approx 10 lash extensions per eye).

Recommendations on lash length and style, based on the shape of your eyes, face, and eyebrows, will be discussed. Then, just lay back and relax while lashes are applied!

You should expect to lay as quietly as possible for up to 2 hours (3-4 for volume lashes) on a comfy, heated massage table where every effort will be made to help you relax!

Blankets, music, aromatherapy, and body pillows/cushions are available for each client. Naps are highly encouraged! Please keep talking to a minimum and avoid caffeine the day of your appointment.

What is a lash lift?

Also known as a lash perm, an eyelash lift is a semi permanent procedure that lifts and curls your natural lashes, lasting up to 6 weeks.

Combined with a tint, a lash lift is a great way to give your eyelashes the illusion of using a lash curler and mascara, without the damage and mess!

What can I expect at my lash lift appointment?

After the initial consultation & waiver, you’ll lay back on a comfy massage table for 45-60 minutes while your eyelashes are curled, and then tinted black using a vegetable-based dye.

Is there maintenance required with lash lifts?

The only maintenance required is to avoid steam and moisture within 24 hours of the lash lift procedure. After that, enjoy maintenance-free curled lashes!

Since your natural lashes shed and grow new, straighter hairs, most clients come in every 6-8 weeks to freshen up the lift, curl and tint to their lashes.

Unlike extensions, it is ok to wear mascara after your lash lift.
